One of the famous chef in Hanoi is Mrs.Pham Anh Tuyet. The chef Phan Anh Tuyet
Famous Hanoi cook builds up global reputation Anh Tuyet, a famous chef in Ma May street, Hanoi, is known to many people for her delicious dish of grilled honey chicken. In the 1930s my maternal grandma was a cook for some French men and I used to help her, so I learned my cooking skills from her, she recalled. During her childhood, after school hours, Ms Tuyet helped her mother and grandma with the kitchen chores. Being an intelligent girl, she was able to pick up all the cooking techniques from the two old women and remember them for later in life. After retirement in 1987 she opened the Anh Tuyet restaurant with the first dish Su Kem (cream cakes). Finding success with the dish, she began to cook chicken grilled with mushrooms and chicken grilled with honey. Words quickly spread of her talent and her restaurant became popular among Hanoians and even visitors from other localities. In 2001, she participated in a cuisine festival held in Hanoi and her biscuits and grilled honey chicken won the gold medal.
Two years later, in 2003, Anh Tuyet restaurant won gold medals for Gio Tai Luoi (pigs ear and tongue paste), Tom Hoang De (Kings Shrimp), and Sop Dua (coconut wafer) cake. In addition to the gold medals, some of her dishes were also given the Golden Products title. Success follows success and Anh Tuyet restaurant has received many orders from a wide range of customers. In late 2003, Mrs Tuyet received a phone call from the US. The caller identified himself as Hoang Linh, a staff member from the Vietnamese Embassy in Washington. He made a reservation for the New York TV crew, which include the famous US chef Anthony Bourdain, who is also the author of many cooking books. While the TV crew was in Hanoi, they visited Anh Tuyet restaurant, made a documentary about Vietnamese cuisine and particularly enjoyed Ms Tuyets cooking the grilled honey chicken and the Nem (spring rolls). After his trip to Vietnam, Anthony Bourdain introduced Anh Tuyet restaurant in the Traveller journal issue of September 2003, particular her grilled honey chicken which he claimed was the best Vietnamese dish he ever tasted. Mrs Tuyet also provides great customer service and while visiting the restaurant, the hospitality of the owner and the good food, plus the pleasant atmosphere, make many customers think of visiting the restaurant again soon.
